Then Jolene is an 8 piece melodic raucous folk, hillbilly, hard country string band from Woolgoolga on the North Coast of New South Wales. With three band members born on the same day, two married couples and multiple personalities, Then Jolene live performances tread the fine line of orchestrated chaos, good humour and frenetic energy, similar to a diesel engine that cogs into 5th gear along a gravel road. The sound is a manifestation of disparate styles, collated by fate combining double bass, banjos, fiddles guitars with 4 part vocal harmonies as the centrepiece.
Then Jolene is a fortuitous mistake, the bastard son of bluegrass and the wayward daughter of traditional country music.
Then Jolene have performed across NSW in a wide range of venues, from small country halls to traditional beer barns, micro breweries and wineries to festivals such as the Bello Winter Festival, Yamba Surfing the Coldstream Festival, Coffs Harbour Banana Festival and have been offered spots on the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival and the Newstead Festival in Brisbane. Then Jolene is equally at home in small, sit down venues and larger festivals, tailoring their set to suit the mood.
Then Jolene released their debut, self titled album into the world in 2016 to positive reviews. 2018 will see the band recording and releasing their sophomore album and jumping on their recently purchased tour bus, aptly name Lurlene, to play to as many folk as they can.
Then Jolene, it isn’t rocket science, it’s harder than that.
